Be Proactive.

We’ve all done it:

Looked through the window to see rain and grey clouds, and decided it’s a miserable day.

Been criticised by someone at work or home and consequently felt down for hours afterwards.

Watched our sports team win a game and felt on cloud nine for a week.

For better or worse, these are all examples of reactive behaviour, where our feelings depend on the results of external events or processes that we have no control over. They are completely outside our sphere of influence, yet they can control our lives.

Think about it, how many times has your day been completely destroyed just because someone told you they didn’t like what you were wearing, or that your breath smells bad or anything of the sort ? My guess is that, like every single person on the planet, you’ve felt this way at least once this week.

You may just ask : “But how am i supposed to not be influenced by these negative ideas ?”

Well, my answer to this question is the following:

Whenever you feel down from now on because of anything that happened during the day, I want you to take a deep breath, delete the waste that’s accumulating in your mind and continue on with your day. Being proactive is about preventing problems by always being on top of your priorities and always taking care of yourself regardless of the external factors that could be insulting/embarassing.

Being proactive is not about not being emotional anymore, it’s more about understanding that not reacting in a certain way to a problem or situation can really make a difference in how you feel most of the time. More on proactivity later, but for now, stay motivated !
